How To Get the Perfect Blonde

Over the years I have spent so much time, money and energy on refining my ability to achieve the perfect shade of blonde for my guests. I enjoy the “blonding” process so much, that over the years I’ve had the pleasure of instructing many professional stylists and colorists on perfecting this somewhat complicated, yet very satisfying service. I really feel that one of the things that make me stand out from the crowd is that I am honest with my guests about what can and can not be achieved in just one salon visit. I often have to convey this point to both our guests and professional stylists even though I know it’s hard to believe that in this day and age of immediate satisfaction, we can’t always have exactly what we want the minute we see it on Instagram and/or Pinetrest.  But honestly, obtaining the right shade of blonde is more about patience and commitment to the upkeep. If you are thinking about going blonde, getting highlights, having a Balayage color service or just lightening and brightening up a few pieces then guess what?  You are actually thinking about what we professional hair colorists call a “Blonding Service,” and…I couldn’t be more excited for you!!! Here are my professional recommendations on how to achieve the perfect shade of blonde that’s just right for you.

Step 1: Make a reservation with your favorite stylist and/or colorist immediately. (It is “blonding” season and you want to make sure you can get a convenient appointment as soon as possible).

Hot Tip:  Be sure to clear your schedule…“blonding” requires time to process.  If you are deciding to go from dark to light, plan on being at the salon for at least 4 hours, and know that often, depending on where you are starting from, it may take multiple sessions to achieve the perfect shade of blonde. If you do not have a favorite stylist or favorite salon, ask for recommendations especially from people whose hair you love – I ‘m sure they will be more than happy to share their salon with you.

Step 2: Start your Google search for hair inspo pics and select 2 or 3 that you really like and that you think would look good on you.  Or, dig out some old baby or kid pics when you relished those natural summer sun highlights, and bring them with you to your hair appointment.

Hot Tip: When any of our current or new guests want to make a big change,  we always ask them to email us a few photos of what their hair looks like now, and a few inspo pics to compare and discuss, so that we can start planning the perfect salon  “blonding” experience!

Step 3: Arrive early to your appointment to fill out the required paperwork. Be sure to bring your photos with you so that you and your stylist can have a detailed consultation. During this time your stylist will ask you a lot of questions about your hair and your past experiences – what’s worked and what hasn’t. You will also be asked what the current status of your hair is, any and all recent processes, products you have used and are currently using, and all color processes you’ve had done.

Please tell the whole truth! It doesn’t do any good to withhold any information – it will only hinder the desired effect.  Every detail is important. Even if you think its minor, share it anyway – it’s better to let the professional decide. During the consultation you will discuss all your options including upcoming visits, the correct hair care products for home, what the service will look like today, and most importantly the final cost. If you have any time limitations and do not think you can commit to long-term maintenance, now is the time to discuss easy grow out options like a lived in Balayage or natural Balayage look.

Step 4: Sit back, relax, and allow the professionals to do their work. Remember… this is your time, so however you want to spend it is entirely up to you. If you are curious, you may want a step by step tutorial about what your stylist is mixing and fixing.  If you are more into chilling and leaving the “driving to us” then please, don’t hesitate to say “Hey, I’m really not into conversing” – your stylist will totally understand and respect your desire to chill.  Just let us know – our goal is to make you happy and comfortable.  This way we can deliver the most customized experience!

Step 5: In today’s modern, technological world it doesn’t happen unless we see it on Instagram, so make sure to snap a pic of your new look, post it and tag your stylist and salon. We really appreciate this gesture, and we are always more than happy to take some pictures for you – (we don’t even mind taking pics with you 🙂 ).

Hot Tip: Things to remember before you leave the salon — make sure you have your future reservation set up, and don’t leave without all of the recommended hair care products for home. This will be your insurance policy to protect the major color investment you have just made.
